Serena Williams has revealed her intention to play at the US Open. The event which will be held behind closed doors from August 31 in New York as seen the some top players likely to boycott the event but Serena is having none of that as she can’t wait for the event to start.
The American is willing to play at the Flushing Meadows as she chase a record equaling 24th grand slam title despite some top players preparing to miss out of the event.
“I really cannot wait to return to New York and play the US Open 2020”, Serena said.
Tennis have been on hold since March because of COVID-19 and the US Open will be the first Grand Slam to take place since the pandemic.
The games organizers United States Tennis Association (USTA) says they are confident of having a successful event, despite calls from tennis players while the US Open should hold in New York which has been one of the severely affected city by coronavirus.
Serena, 38, has however given her backing and believes everything will be perfect.
“I feel the USTA will do a really good job to ensuring everything is amazing, that everything is perfect and safe,” said the 23-time Grand Slam champion.
Serena Williams has lost the past four Grand Slam finals while trying to tie Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slams titles.
