The Italian Serie A returns today.

After three months of no action in the Serie A due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Italian top-flight will be back. The Coppa Italia was the curtain-raiser over the past one week as SSC Napoli led by the enigmatic Gennaro Gattuso defeated Juventus 4-2 on penalties to win the Coppa Italia.

Serie A becomes the last of the top 5 leagues to resume its 2019/2020 season after the German Bundesliga, Spanish Laliga and the Premier League although the French Ligue One ended their season abruptly naming PSG the champion.

There are still much to play in the Italian league, the race for the title, European slots qualifications, relegation and the battle for the Capocannoniere which is the title given for the top scorer.

Lazio has been the surprise team of the season, with just one point behind defending champion and league leaders, Juventus, the Biancocelesti has so far had a stunning season by all standard.

The Simone Inzaghi led team will be looking to continue from where they stopped when they host free-scoring Atalanta in their first match after COVID-19. Inzaghi will be banking on the likes of Ciro Immobile who is the top scorer in the league with 27 goals, captain Senad Lulic, Luis Alberto, Sergej Milinkovic- Savic, Luiz Felipe amongst others.

Inter Milan will be hoping to have their season turned around when they host Sassuolo. The Nerazzurri have flattered to deceive despite the wealth of talents at their disposal.

The Antonio Conte tutored team will be disappointed on how their season has panned out so far despite starting the season on fire before crashing out early in the Champions League, lost out to eventual winners Napoli in the Coppa Italia and lost touch at the top of the league before coronavirus.

Presently on 54 points and 9 points off the pace, the Black and Blue have a slim hope of having a shot at the title with 13 matches left to play, except for an unbelievable twist towards the end of the season, Inter Milan will fight for a Champions League berth next season.

Maurizio Sarri is under immense pressure at Juventus. The former Napoli coach lost his former employers in the final of the Coppa Italia on Wednesday and has received a lot of criticism for The Old Lady shambolic season so far.

Juventus despite still at the top of the table has not been impressive in the course of the season. With just one point ahead of Lazio, a title loss for the Bianconeri might see Sarri get the sack.
Juventus resumes their course to defend the Seria A title they have won for the past eight seasons with a visit to Brescia.

The race for the last champions league slot will be hot between Atalanta and Roma with three points separating both teams. Napoli might be looking for a battle therein but The Blues are 9 points from 4th place Atlanta. Gennaro Gattuso side will have to win the remaining set of match and hope that Atalanta and Roma stumble to have a chance to pick the last Champions League slot.

AC Milan, Hellas Verona and Parma will be fighting for the last Europa League berth. Napoli already picked one slot with Italian Cup triumph, Roma already in pole position if they can’t pip Atalanta to Champion League final qualification, it will be a battle to finish among the Rossoneri, the I Gialloblu and the I Crociati.

SPAL 2013 and Brescia looks almost condemned for relegation. Both teams are on sixteen and eighteen points respectively, occupying the 19th and 20th position. However, the likes of Lecce, Genoa, Sampdoria, Torino and Udinese will be fighting to avoid the drop.
Welcome back the Italian Serie A.
Arrivederci!
