The President of FFCN (Football Fans Club of Nigeria), Ambassador Kemi Ogunfuwa has called for more recognition and support for football supporters groups in Nigeria.
Ambassador Ogunfuwa pointed out while featuring on BCOS TV sports programme, Weekend Sports anchored by Tosin Sanya and produced by Adewale Tijani, that football supporters in Nigeria deserve more recognition and support from the football loving Nigerians.
She disclosed that the FFCN spend their hard earned money and precious time to support and follow the country’s teams around the world, and therefore deserve more appreciation and support from rich individuals and corporate bodies.
“I wish people could see the supporters clubs as parts of the system. We’re NGOs spending our hard earned money to support the national teams and are traveling around the world with the teams. Therefore we deserve more appreciation, support and recognition”, Ambassador Ogunfuwa stated.
The University of Lagos English Graduate commended Amaju Pinnick led NFF for securing sponsors for the Federation and national teams but however appealed to the football governing body in Nigeria to also find sponsors for the supporters clubs.
“We give kudos to NFF under Amaju Pinnick for bringing on a lot of sponsors to support the players. But it will be nice if it can be extended to the supporters clubs as well “, she said.
Ambassador Ogunfuwa, who has been actively supporting Nigerian national teams since 1995, was formerly the Social Secretary of the NFSC and later became the Secretary General before moving on to establish the Football Fans Club of Nigeria.
She revealed to BCOS Sports that she created another body so as to actualise her own dreams and agenda for football development in the country.
