Juventus have renewed the contract of goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, and captain Giorgio Chiellini until June 2021.

Chiellini’s previous contract was a two-year deal, signed in 2018 with the Old Lady and was set to end at the end of this month,June, but he has been rewarded with an extra year.

The 35-year-old has been limited to only three appearances all season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in training on August 30, 2019. He would returned in February 16, 2020 coming on as a 78th minute substitute against Brescia.

He has been kept on the bench since football resumed as Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri decided to stick with the pairing of Matthijs de Ligt and Leonardo Bonnuci.

The new contract means that the former Livorno defender will be featuring for Juventus in sixteen straight season having made his debit in 2005.

Buffon, 42, was however signed on a one-year deal after returning from PSG in 2019.

Buffon has been limited to 13 appearances in all competitions. He has served as back up to Poland’s Wojciech Szczęsny.
