Manchester United legend Dimitar Berbatov is delighted with the potential of Manchester United Academy graduate Mason Greenwood, with the youngster getting a huge responsibility soon.
Dimitar Berbatov has come out to say that Mason Greenwood is a prototype of Cristiano Ronaldo at the theatre of dreams, and he has backed the 18-year-old attacker to move in the direction of Ronaldo’s illustrious footsteps.
The English man has enjoyed a fantastic season all thanks to the gaffer Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who hasn’t denied the youngster regular outings, which he has also repaid by finding the back of the net on 13 occasions.
Ronaldo couldn’t do better than what Mason has done until his fourth season with the team, that marked the beginning of Cristiano’s illustrious career with the Portuguese going on to become a five-time world’s best player of the year.
The former Spurs attacker is confident Mason is blessed with the potential to go through a similar path, he’s saying that there’s plenty of things to be excited about when it comes to a teenager blossoming on a big stage.
The 39 year old Bulgarian striker revealed to The Mirror: “Greenwood, against Brighton, was like Ronaldo.
“His left foot is unbelievable along with his vision, I don’t think many signings are needed to take United to that next level.
They need to be really classy players to make the difference, someone who is going to be better than the current squad of players.”
Ole Solskjaer is very much aware of United having a rough diamond on their books in Greenwood, with the intention to turn him into a finished product that’d have a talismanic presence.
OGS has opened up: “He’s getting better. You can see clearly that he’s maturing and improving, he’s only 18 still so we will see more from him.
I’ve said it throughout the year that as long as we can get him faced up in and around the box he’ll create chances for us but in this game [a 3-0 win over Brighton] his hold-up play and his link-up play and general movement was fantastic as well.
It’s great when he can go inside and outside, both to his left and right.
They need to be really classy players to make the difference, someone who is going to be better than the current squad of players.
He’s doing well now but he is still young and has things to learn. He knows that but we have a special talent there we have to nurture.”
