Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, has been requested by Versailles prosecutor to be put on trial over a blackmail sex tape scandal involving him and former National team-mate Mathieu Valbuena.
Five years ago, Benzema was accused of attempted to blackmail Mathieu Valbuena, former National team teammate. The French born striker was said to have encouraged former Olympique de Marseille star Mathieu Valbuena to pay blackmailers to get a tape back, which purportedly contained sex scenes between Mr Valbuena and his girlfriend.
Since the incident surfaced, Benzema hasn’t played for the “Les bleus”, he also missed out on the World Cup 2018 France victory in Russia.
The 32-year-old Lawyer, Sylvain Cormier, asserted the striker’s innocence during the heat of the case in 2015, saying: “He played no part, I repeat no part, in any blackmail or attempted blackmail.”
But Mathieu Valbuena told Le Monde via The Guardian then that “Benzema wasn’t aggressive and he didn’t speak to me firmly, directly about money, but when you insist that I meet someone… hmmm.
“Personally I’ve never known of anyone willing to destroy a video for free just because they love me! You can’t take people for idiots.”
