According to a report from James Pearce, Cameroonian and Liverpool defender Joel Matip is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to a foot injury, after damaging his foot in a game against bitter rivals Everton.

Kenny Bamidele spoke with James Pearce on a radio program ‘TOTAL SPORTS’, where the journalist actually confirmed the situation of Joel Matip’s injury, calling it a ‘Big shame’.

“It is a big shame that Joel Matip got injured in the first game of the restart, he damaged his foot in a tackle which means that he won’t play again this season, Joel Matip been a brilliant signing for Liverpool”

The good news for the Reds, is that, Joel Matip will return better next season. James was full of praise for the Cameroonian, who came into the club for a Free transfer, and has contributed hugely to recent success the Reds have achieved. James called Matip ‘a quite guy’.

” he is a quite guy, he said doesn’t act like a star player, he is a big professional”

Matip certainly not returning this season, but that should not be a problem for Liverpool, as they have sealed the Premier League title already. Leaving them with dead-rubber games left.

He joined Liverpool from Schalke 04 on a free transfer, he was part of those defenders Jurgen Klopp brought in when he took charge of the club, in 2015.

He has grown to a word-class level, arguably. Forget about the fact that, Vandijk’s introduction changed Liverpool defense, his pairing with Matip is sensational.

It is still left to be seen, if the Reds will get any defensive recruitment this summer. But baring any unforeseen circumstance Joel Matip should return next season.
