Nigeria and Genk attacker Paul Onuachu, on Wednesday tested positive for coronavirus, according to a Belgian website Het Laatste Nieuws.
The lanky striker is set to be quarantined for seven days. He left Belgium for Nigeria on the 27th of May, alongside Lille’s player of the year Victor Osimhen and Imoh Ezekiel who plays for Kortrijk. And he returned to his club on the 28th of June.
The Genk team were all made to undergo mandatory tests on Tuesday ahead of their pre-season friendly against Eendracht Termien and the players all got a negative result with the exception of Paul Onuachu.
He’s been training with the team for over a week. Super Eagles duo of Stephen Odey and Cyriel Dessers tested negative for Covid19. Onuachu becomes the second Nigerian footballer to contract the virus after Akpan Udoh, the first footballer to be infected, in February.
The 26-year-old striker joined Genk from Danish club FC Midtjylland last summer and scored 10 goals for the club before the Belgian Pro Division season was halted due to the Covid19 pandemic.
He has one goal to his name for the national team of Nigeria, a he scored against the Pharoahs of Egypt in an Afcon pre tournament match in 2019.
