Lionel Messi became the second player to score and also assist 20 goals in a single season in the 21st century.

The Argentine International assisted Barcelona’s first and only goal against Real Valladolid which was converted by Aturo Vidal in the 15th minute of their La-Liga encounter this evening. He became the first player to achieve such feat in the 21st century after Arsenal legend and record goalscorer Thierry Henry, who scored 24 and set-up 20 in 2002/03 for Arsenal.

Messi has scored 700 goals and have had 295 assists so far in his career. The world player of the year is also Barcelona’s all time record goal scorer with 629 goals so far.

The Catalan club won the game against Real Valladolid by alone goal to keep pace with current table toppers Real Madrid in the race for the La Liga tittle. Barcelona’s goalkeeper Ter Stegen also kept his 100th clean sheets for the club in their win today.
