President Muhammed Buhari has congratulated Kamaru Usman on recent victory over Jorge Masvidal in the UFC 251.

Kamaru usurped his opponent by a unanimous decison (50-45, 50-45, 49-46) in the main event of UFC 251 at the early hours on Sunday, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. That victory for Usman means he has retained his UFC welterweight title.

According to a statement released by Bashir Ahmad, the Personal Assistant on New Media to President, on Sunday evening, stated that, the President is happy with the recent achievement of the Nigerian

“President @MBuhari heartily congratulates Kamarudeen @Usman84kg on the successful defence of his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight title with an emphatic win over Jorge Masvidal.”

The President joins thousands of Nigerians who have congratulated Kamaru Usman for the win.

It was Usman’s 12th straight win in the UFC, tying Georges St-Pierre’s record for longest welterweight win streak.  Kamaru Usman joins Khabib Nurmagomedov and Anderson Silva as the only fighters in history to start a UFC career with a 12-0 record.

The fight was held at the recently constructed Flash Forum on Yas Island.

Going into the fight, Usman Kamaru was tied with fellow Nigerian Israel Adesanya for the sixth on ESPN’s top pound-for-pound MMA fighter list. Opponent Masvidal is Number 2 at the welterweight, below Usman.
