AC Milan and Ralf Rangnick have decided to break their agreement while extending the contract of coach Stefano Pioli till 2022.

A three-year deal between Milan and Rangnick was reported to have been agreed in principle, the Rossoneri is backing out of the deal after an upturn in the results under Pioli.

Rangnick, who is currently the head of sport and development at Red Bull GmbH was set to take a double role at the Rossonerri, first the managerial position combined with the technical adviser’s role.

The seven time European champions has however decided to back their Italian manager who has changed the fortunes of the club since the return of the Italian league after the coronavirus pandemic by giving him an extra one year contract extension.

In nine league matches played since resumption, the Red and black are yet to lose a match.

The form of the likes of Ante Rebic, Hakan Calhanoglu, Franck Kessie, captain Alessio Romagnoli, old war horse Zlatan Ibrahimovic, goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and other players has seen Milan produced impressive results and moved up to fifth placed on the Serie A log after yesterday’s win away at Sassuolo, a game that saw Ibrahimovic grabbed a brace.

They have won seven games including a shock three nil win over title chasing Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico followed by another impressive win over title defending champions Juventus, a match they came from two goals down to win 4-2.

They have drawn just two games. Scored 27 goals, conceded 10 goals, racking up 23 points out of a possible 27 and presently occupying the fifth position, almost guaranteed a Europa League spot for next season.
