After failing to tie down a regular shirt with Denizlispor, Nigeria’s Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has decided to part ways with the Turkish Super Lig side, OJB Sport reports.
Onazi moved to Denizlispor during a winter transfer window in January after he left another Turkish side Tranzonspor and signed a 18 month deal.
The report coming from Turkey on Thursday afternoon indicated that Onazi has terminated his deal with the club.
Onazi who was part of the 2009 Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets moved to Europe and joined Lazio in 2011 and Onazi was first promoted to the Lazio first team during the 2011–12 season after appearing at youth level.
He made his Serie A debut as a substitute in the penultimate match of the season, replacing Senad Lulić in the 90th minute, Lazio recorded a 2–0 victory over Atalanta.
Onazi made headlines in Italy when he netted 88th-minute goal for the final score of 3–2 in Lazio’s win over Napoli and Lazio helped secure the last Champions League place for the club.
The energetic midfielder who made his debut for the senior Nigeria national team in an African Cup of Nations qualification match against Liberia joined Tranzonspor for a fee of €3.5 million in 2016.
Onazi was part of victorious Nigeria’s Super Eagles team that emerged champions of Africa in South Africa in 2013 under late coach Stephen Keshi.
He was also part of the Super Eagles team to 2014 World Cup in Brazil and 2018 World Cup in Russia before missing out of the 2019 African Cup Of Nations in Egypt due to injury.
It’s left to be seen where Onazi will play his next football.
