Atletico Madrid has rejected Arsenal’s player plus cash offer for Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey.
According to reports from [TheAFCBell] the Spanish club has turned down an oral offer from Arsenal for Partey. Arsenal offered out of favour midfielder Matteo Guendouzi plus €10m for the hard tackling Ghanaian midfielder but the offer was rejected by the Diego Simieone’s side.
The 27 years old is keen to a move to Premier league and has rejected an offer of a contract extension at Wanda Metropolitano Stadium. There is optimism in Thomas Partey’s camp that all parties will reach an agreement despite the rejection of the opening offer.
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has made signing a strong defensive midfielder with a good physicality a priority this summer and Partey fits the profile of a player he is looking for. Arsenal has presented a four years contract that will double the midfielders current weekly wages at Atletico to his representatives and is confident that the offer would surely convince the midfielder to force a move to the Emirates.
The Ghanaian International has been one of the key men for Diego Simieone’s team over the last couple of years and has a release clause of €50m in his contract as Atletico. The Madrid side will only accept an offer that will trigger his €50m release clause before they will be willing to sanction a move for Thomas. Talks between the both clubs will continue in the next few days as reported by @TheAFCBeII.
