Jan Vertonghen has left Tottenham following the expiration of his contract.
The Belgium defender left the North London club as a free agent having failed to agree a new contract terms with the club. Talks over extension has been going on over the past few months between his representatives and the Spurs management team but failed to yield a positive result as he wanted a good pay rise which the club couldn’t offer.
The disagreement between the both parties prompted the Spurs manager Jose Mourinho to drop him to the bench as it became obvious that the Vertonghen would be living this summer.
Jan shared the news of his departure this morning on his official twitter handle @JanVertonghen where he wrote ” So my time at the club comes to an end. A sad day for many reasons. I will miss the friends I’ve made here, the staff that make the club run, playing at the amazing new stadium & of course you fans.Thank you for all the support over the years. You’ve been amazing. We had many unbelievable memories but for now, it’s goodbye. 💙#COYS.
