Wilfred Zaha has informed Crystal Palace that he wants to leave the club this summer.
The Ivorian was subjected to an interest from Arsenal and Everton last summer but both clubs was unable to meet Palace’s 80 million pounds valuation of Zaha with the Eagles ending up keeping their key man beyond last summer. But now the 27 years old skillful winger has told the club that the time has come for him to leave as he wants to play in a top team and compete in the European elite competitions.
Crystal Palace’s manager Roy Hodgson confirmed the news of Zaha’s request to leave the club in his post match conference yesterday, after their 1-1 draw with Tottenham in the final game of the season; “The speculation has obviously affected him because his form in the last few weeks has really been poor considering what he is capable of doing,”It’s a dilemma for the club and a dilemma for him if he is so set on leaving.
If he feels he just does not want to be with us any more, that would be sad. We still like him very much, we can’t make him like us. This is a situation that only he and the club can sort out. I don’t have an answer.”
Zaha has been a key man for the London club over the years as he also came through the clubs youth academy. He made a total of 38 appearances in the recent concluded season but managed to score only four goals. If he ends up leaving this summer, it will certainly be a big blow for Roy Hodgson’s men and the club will need to invest wisely to replace the former England youth teamer.
