Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion are going toe-to-toe to sign Nigeria and Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho.

Ihenacho found the back of the net on ten occasions and provided four assists in the just concluded season. But having a stellar season hasn’t guaranteed him a constant starting berth in the team because the evergreen Jamie Vardy is still potent in front of goal.

With his new found form, the 2013 FIFA U-17 Golden Ball winner might be tempted to find a new home so as to change from his ‘supersub’ role at the King Power Stadium to a undisputed starter because offers are beginning to come in. With the two Premier League Midlands clubs namely Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion offering the 23-year-old an opportunity to lead the team’s attacking line he could move.

It’s also reports that Newcastle United have also indicated their interest, if Leicester City made it to the UEFA champions league, he could have returned to the Ethihad stadium three years after he left Manchester City for Leicester in a £25 million deal due to a clause in his deal that enables City to buy him back provided Leicester City make it to the UEFA Champions League.

Despite starting his career as an attacking midfielder, he has shown versatility because he’s able to play as a striker, second striker and a winger. He’s an instinctive, penalty-box poacher, who’s also prolific from outside the box with his left foot. As earlier said, Kelechi Iheanacho scored ten times in 26 appearances in the just concluded season, although majority of those matches he featured where from the bench.

The attack line of Aston Villa never sparked this season because Wesley Moraes, Mbwanna Samatta and Keinan Davis combined a total of six English Premier League goals during the 2019/20 campaign, if Iheanacho decides to team up with Villa he would have very little problem in making himself Dean Smith’s first-choice striker.

Newly promoted side West Bromwich Albion are showing strong interest in the Nigerian as Slaven Bilic’s free-wheeling side never had a prolific centre-forward who bagged many goals. They team shared the goals amongst themselves. It is required of the Baggies to get a proper nine if they are to avoid relegation back to the Championship.

If Kelechi joins West Bromwich Albion he’d be the second Nigerian at the club with Semi Àjàyí being the only Nigerian there at the moment.
