Arsenal FC have been given an edge in the race to sign Philippe Coutinho from FC Barcelona, with North London rivals Tottenham Hotspurs also battling the Gunners in bid to bring the Brazilian playmaker back to the English Premier League.
Barcelona are ready to do business as regards Coutinho because it is their aim to get him off their books this summer. To show their level of desperation, they are willing to cut their losses on him and reduce their asking price for the forward.
Arsenal’s Head Coach Mikel Arteta is a lover of Coutinho and his talent and he’s working towards bringing Philippe Coutinho to the Emirates despite having a restricted budget which rules them out of making a permanent purchase for the midfielder.
His hope is now laid upon the Emirates FA Cup final against Chelsea. If he leads his team to the win, it’d be enough to guarantee Arsenal a place in the Europa League next term.
Philippe Coutinho spent the just concluded season on loan at German giants Bayern Munich, where he things didn’t work out as planned.
An option to sign him permanently for £109million was included in the deal but the Bavarians are not willing to activate the clause.
His agent Kia Joorabchian is bent on bringing Philippe Coutinho back to the English Premier League.
The Brazilian spent five glamorous years with Merseyside giants Liverpool in England, where he played the best football of his career but he never won a trophy with the side.
The Independent reports that Arsenal have been handed major boost to sign Coutinho.
The report claims that the Arsenal Chiefs have tabled just £9million plus Matteo Guendouzi in other to get the deal done.
It’s obvious that Guendouzi’s days at the club are over and Mikel Arteta is willing to use him as a makeshift for Philippe Coutinho this summer.
The Gunners have also added him in a player-plus-cash deal to Atletico Madrid for Ghanaian Midfielder Thomas Partey.
It’d be a shocker if Arsenal sign Philippe Coutinho for a permanent transfer without any player added because Barcelona want £60million for him. And Arsenal’s limited transfer budget is why they’re offering £9million plus Matteo Guendouzi.
The Catalans are considering the option of loaning Philippe to an interested club with an obligation to buy.
This proposal by Barcelona would be of benefit to any suitor hoping to land him so as they’d be able to help them finances any deal across a longer period of time.
The Reds are sm to face unpaid bills through the add-ons included in the £142million deal for Coutinho.
The Reds would pocket £17.5million if Coutinho made 100 appearances for Barcelona because it’s an add ons that is part of the deal. He has played 74 competitive games for the Catalan side but it’s not likely that he’d appear as an FC Barcelona player again.
