Nigeria Professional Football League has finally confirmed its representatives for the 2020/2021 Confederations of African Football (CAF) interclub competitions.

The league which came to an abrupt end due to the coronavirus pandemic was eventually decided by the points per game method (PPG) though no champion was elected as well as no demotion.

The final table was released yesterday. Plateau United was untouched at the top of the table and will take the first slot for the Champions league. Two-time CAF Champions League winner Enyimba will join Plateau United as the second team in flying Nigeria’s flag in the Champions league albeit in controversial manner. Rivers United and Kano Pillars will be representing the nation in CAF Confederation Cup.

Enyimba and Rivers United both tied on the same points but the head to head rule was used to judge who takes the final slot. The Peoples’ Elephant and the Pride of Rivers met just once in the season with the Aba based team winning that single leg. The return leg couldn’t take place no thanks to COVID-19.

Rivers United might be a bit bitter about this judgment has they have a better goal difference than Enyimba.

See table below.

With the Federations Cup unable to take place this season, Kano Pillars who is the defending champion retain its ticket.
