Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge remains optimistic that 28-year-old Austrian versatile defender David Alaba, will sign a contract extension with the Balvarian giants.

Alaba has been stalling on an extension of his current deal, which expires next year, but Rummenigge hasn’t given up hope that the 28-year-old will stay. 

Alaba is part of the four senior players(Thiago Alcantara, Jerome Boateng and Javi Martinez) in Bayern Munich who have a year remaining on thier contract.

David Alaba have been in Bayern Munich since 2009 where he joined the youth team, he broke in to the first team in 2010 and have since made 249 appearances scoring 20 goals.

The Bayern Boss spoke to TZ today saying “I’m cautiously optimistic that we can reach an agreement”.

Bayern are expected to hold new talks with Alaba and his representatives once the club’s Champions League campaign comes to an end later this month. 

On Saturday, the German champions beat Chelsea to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, where they will be up against FC Barcelona on Friday in Lisbon.

The Balvarians giant last won the champions league in 2013, ever since then they have only been only been able to make the semi finals, they hope make it to the final this year and win the UCL trophy.
