Holland manager Ronald koeman will become Barcelona manager and official announcement is expected to be made this week according to Italian journalist Frabrizio Romano.
It expected that the Barcelona legend will leave his job as the Holland national team manager.
Koeman has been highly rated at the top level of the game, though he had a disappointing stint in charge of Everton in the Premier League.
Koeman’s only other job in La Liga, was a disappointing one, he struggled in a brief stint with Valencia between 2007 and 2008.
The 57 year old koeman played for Barcelona during his active football career.
He turned down a proposal from director of football Eric Abidal in January to replace Ernesto Valverde, Koeman will finally coach Barcelona, he has previously described coaching Barcelona as a ‘dream job’.
Barcelona president Bartomeu was set to step down in 2021, yet the enormity of the crisis the club finds itself in, following Friday’s humiliating 8-2 loss against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinals at the Estadio da Luz, means that grand changes are to be made ahead as schedule.
The president had previously given his backing to Setien as the La Liga title was lost to arch rival Real Madrid, however after overseeing the Catalan darkest night on the continent in their 121 year history, there is no way that the 61-year-old can continue at the helm.
The confirmation of Setien sack is expected to be made official later today in Spain.
