RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Kröshe has ruled out the departure of Dayot Upamecano and the manager of the club.

Before the outbreak of Covid-19, Upamecano was rumored to be leaving the club at end of the 2019/2020 season, with Arsenal been the club interested in signing the Frenchman.

The 21-year-old defender had just one year on his contract, his release clause then was €60 million which no club ready to match the fee due to the financial strain in the pandemic period.

Therefore, Both the club and the player representatives agreed to extend the contract to 2023, the release clause now is reported to be in the region of €42 million which will be activated next summer.

Even though he recently signed a new deal, with Upamecano standout performance against Athletico Madrid in the Champions League last week reignited speculation linking the centre-back with a move away from the club this summer.

But RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krösche have now made it clear once and for all that Upamecano will be staying in Leipzig for next season.

Krösche was quoted by Kicker saying “He will definitely stay with us for next season,”

He also added “You don’t extend your contract just to leave right away”.

RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann, who is under contract until 2023, is expected to be on board as well.

Krösche said “It’s nice that he gets so much positive feedback. But he is 100 percent with RB Leipzig”.

RB Leipzig will look to qualify for the final of the Champions League for the first time in their history, they will be facing Paris Saint Germain in the semi finals on Tuesday.
