German Bundesliga 2 side FC St Pauli has announced the capture of Nigeria’s Super Eagles midfielder Afeez Aremu on 2 year deal, OJB Sport reports.

The skilful midfielder left Akwa United few years back for Ghana’s premier league side Inter Allies.

Director of Sport in the club Andreas Bornemann alongside head coach Timo Shultz expressed their happiness over the deal.

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: “Afeez Aremu fits the profile we were looking for in defensive midfield. He’s athletic and aggressive in the tackle and already has a wealth of professional experience despite his young age. We therefore believe he won’t find it difficult to settle in with us.”

Head coach Timo Schultz: “In Afeez we’re getting a component our squad had been lacking. He’s the dynamic ‘enforcer’ type of player I was after. He’s already completed several seasons at a high level and at his age has potential to develop at the same time.”

Afeez Aremu: “I’m glad to be here at last. When I got the offer from St. Pauli, I didn’t need much time to think. It’s a big club and for me the next important step in my development. I can’t wait to get to know my teammates.”

The 20-year-old Nigerian moved to Norway from Ghanaian first-division side Inter Allies FC in early 2018 and made a total of 63 competitive appearances for IK Start, scoring five goals and providing one assist. Aremu has also played three times for the Nigerian Under-20 team.
