Tennis star Noami Osaka also pulled out of the Western & Southern Open going on New Yorke. Voicing her displeasure at the treatment of blacks by saying that “before I am an athlete, I am a black woman”. Her decision also sparked an announcement from the USTA, ATP Tour, and WTA to put the tournament on hold at least for a day.

Baseball matches were also affected as games between the Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers, the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants were all postponed.
