Arsenal are ready to cash in on Emiliano Martínez according to reports from [@TheAthleticUK].
The 27-year-old Argentine International goalkeeper has been at Arsenal for over 9 years having joined the club as a young star. He initially linked with the club’s youth team and progressed patiently into the first team set up. His journey into the Arsenal first team wasn’t really smooth as it seems, as he has spent time on loan in different teams including Espanol, Granada, Reading etc over the years.
After his loan spell at Reading fc in the English Championship two seasons ago where he performed extremely well and won the club’s player of the year, Emi decided to come back to Arsenal to fight for the number one spot with Bernd Leno following the departure of Peter Cech.
His return to the Emirates stadium didn’t actually go as planned as he was only limited to cup appearances and Europa League games. The 27-year-old wait for a run in the Premier league eventually paid off when Bernd Leno got injured in Arsenal’s away lost to Brighton following a clash with Neal Murpay.
Martinez went on and seized the opportunity putting in impressive performances week in week out in the absence of the regular number one.
He was instrumental to the Arsenal’s FA Cup glory after his magnificent performance in the Semi-finals against Manchester City and also in the finals against Chelsea to win his first senior trophy with the club he loves.
Emi Martinez made it clearly known to the club that he would leave this summer if he would not be guaranteed the number one spot this coming season ahead of Leno. The German international is Mikel Arteta’s preferred choice in goal and he has told Martinez that he would have to fight with Leno to be the club’s first choice goalkeeper this coming season.
As things stands now the club is ready to leg go of Martinez as they won’t guarantee him of being the number one choice ahead of Leno. Arsenal has already set a price tag of £20m for the Argentine goalkeeper. Clubs from English Premier league, Laliga and Bundeslisiga have so far been credited with interests for Martinez but none of the club has tabled a concrete offer for him at the moment.
