Former Liverpool player Emile Heskey has said that he wants to see Jurgen Klopp recruit two or three players for the sake of squad depth and competition for spots.

Emile revealed that he’s worried about the lack of transactions and he said that the Reds need to sign some players due to other top sides kicking at their heels.

The Merseyside giants got their first title win in 30 years last term, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup all under the guidance of German tactician Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool emerged EPL champions with seven games left to play sitting 18 points clear at the top of the league after game week 38, their might is to be tested this season as all eyes would be on them.

In the modern era, only three teams have defended their titles and for the Reds to do that this time around it’d be hard with the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United strengthening their squad in other to mount strong challenges in 2020-21.

Chelsea have been busy in the tranfer market with them bringing the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are not done yet as Kai Havertz is expected to join the Blues before the season starts, and they’re are already one of the contenders for titles across all competitions in England or even in Europe.

Manchester City have bright in three players, Donny van de Beek joins Manchester United, Arsenal bringing in Willian and Gabriel from Lille with the club saying they’re not done yet. While defending champions Liverpool stay dormant in the market.

The Reds legend believes his former employers do need to strengthen their squad depth to go on with their recent achievements, especially due to the short gap between the last campaign and this incoming one caused by the coronavirus hiatus.

“When you watch other teams buying players in the manner they are buying players, you’re always a little bit worried,” the former Reds striker told talkSPORT.

“When you’re looking at Liverpool fans and Klopp, they have so much trust in him and understand where he’s going with it, but then again, I do think back-up wise Liverpool need two or three players.

“When you lose the likes of Jordan Henderson, Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino – Firmino makes a lot of it tick and when you lose that how do you replace him? I don’t think they’ve got that as of yet.

“It’s difficult to judge the Community Shield game, especially with the pre-season the lads have had. The season has ended and they haven’t really had a break, they’ve had to come straight back.

“You look at Liverpool and what Klopp can get out his players and you always put them up there alongside Man City, so it’ll be interesting to see who hits the ground running first – but obviously you have Chelsea kicking at their heels now, they’ve bought some outstanding players.”
