Tennis star Naomi Osaka has convincingly qualified for the semi-finals of the US Open.

The Japanese number four on the placement list was too strong for the American Shelby Rogers in two sets: 6-3, 6-4.

Osaka will again meet an American tennis star, Jennifer Brady, in the semi-finals.

Earlier in the day, Brady won 6-3 6-2 against Yulia Putintseva from Kazakhstan and reached the semi-finals of a grand slam tournament for the first time in her career.

Osaka already won the US Open once, in 2018, by surprisingly beating Serena Williams in the final.

The 22-year-old Japanese continued with the title at the Australian Open in 2019, but since then has not reached a quarter finals at the grand slam tournaments.

She came to New York in good shape, where she reached the final of the WTA tournament in Cincinnati a week and a half ago.

Before that, she signed up for a thigh injury, but it doesn’t seem to be bothering her at the US Open anymore.

In the first set, Osaka broke the US number 93 of the world rankings twice. Rogers couldn’t undo an early break in the second set. At 5-4, the two-time grand slam winner decided the match with a love game.
