Mohamed Elneny could be set to revive his Arsenal career under the guidance of his ex-teammate Mikel Arteta.

The Egyptian International midfielder joined Arsenal in the January transfer window of 2016/2017 season from Swiss club Basel. He has failed to really hit the ground running at the Emirates stadium since he joined the club and has been used sparingly as a squad player.

He spent last season on loan at Turkish club Besiktas and was set for a permanent switch away from Arsenal this summer haven’t been linked with a move back to Turkey, with Trabzonspor and Besiktas reportedly showing interest in the service of the 27-year old Egyptian.

On his return to his parent club (Arsenal) this summer for pre-season in anticipation for a permanent move, Elneny now has a former teammate as the boss at the North London club. Mikel Arteta played alongside Mohamed Elneny for Arsenal in his final season with the club before his retirement and knows the Egyptian so well from there time together at Arsenal as players.

Elneny has been training with the club since his return under a close watch of his former teammate and now Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta. His commitments in the training since his return to the Emirates this summer has impressed the club’s coach (Arteta) and the former Basel man was handed a first taste of action for the club in over a year in the Community Shield victory over Premier league champions Liverpool.

The Egyptian put in a very assured and matured performance alongside Granit Xhaka in the middle of the park. It seems the time he spent in Turkey has done a lot of good to his confidence and instill more self believe in him, He (Elneny) was so calm and composed on the ball even when under pressures and this attracted a lot of praise from a lot of Arsenal supporters after the game with many suggesting he should not be sold this summer and be given a second chance at the club.

Mohamed Elneny was suprisengly handed a start in Arsenal’s first league game of the season ahead of Dani Cebbalos. The Egyptian again put in a very good performance in the middle of the park for the Gunners as they secured a 3 – 0 victory over Fulham playing the entire duration of the game and he deservely received a lot of praise from his manager following his impressive performance.

Mikel Arteta has this to say regarding the Egyptian after the game “I really like Mo and what he brings to the squad, in terms of his personality as well. At a football level, I think he needs a little bit of belief. He has some doubts about whether we can trust him or not. I’ve had a lot of conversations with him, he fully deserves his chance. He trains every day with the best spirit. He wants to learn and he is performing really well”

Elneny also spoke the the media after the game and has this to say regarding his boss, “he speaks to me always, saying things like ‘we need you on the team’ and he is always giving me good feedback and always pushing me to get the best from me. I’m really happy to be here.”

As things stands at the moment the future is looking promising for Mohamed Elneny at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta and he might end up staying at the Emirates this season rather than leaving the club.
