With just a game into the new English Premier League season, attention have been splitted to a number of clubs who had impressives starts to the season, but as time goes on, we will surely seperate the contenders from the pretenders.

The first game of the season generated a lot of buzz from football fans. some of them opined that Arsenal may likely finish in the top four after clean start, while some of them believe it is not time for ‘Uhuru’ yet, as the league shapes up.

Pretender

Chelsea:

Chelsea are the best club in Europe, but only due to massive transfer scoop this summer, the blues have added quality into their ranks, with top players from top clubs and leagues joining Frank Lampard’s side, as they aim to win the English Premier League.

Chelsea have been tipped to win the league this season, as fans are expecting a lot from the club.

Personally i won’t be surprised if the Blues struggle to make the top-four, because of just one major factor.

Acclimatization:

Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz and Thiago Silva are coming from different league to the English Premier League, but will they acclimatize so fast to life in the EPL? Thats is the big question now.

Check-out records of big players who came to the PL to flop, despite hype of what to expect from them, they fumbled. Radamel Falcao, Alvaro Morata etc, are examples.

Mind you, I am not in any way watering down the quality this guys have got, but after an unimpressive first game showing from Havertz. it looks like this new players will find it difficult to get-used to PL style.

Werner won a penalty, bravo!, but scoring should be his priority now, before Chelsea fans start mounting the pressure on him. For now the fans are ‘blinded’, and do not want to see mistakes made by Werner as they will even praise the German for winning a corner kick, but that will only last for a short time.

Contender

Liverpool:

The defending Champions may have had an easy ride winning the English Premier League title last season, but the Reds may as well enjoy such ride this season, if opposition are not weary.

Last season the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic overlaid fears of losing all points, with reports suggesting that the league could be declared ‘null’ and ‘void’ and bla bla bla. They became champions eventually after the league was concluded in an uncharacteristical way.

Meanwhile, Liverpool had a bright start to the 2020/21 PL season, after beating stubborn Leeds United at the Anfield stadium, 4-3.

With this result from Liverpool, rival fans have posited that, this may not be Liverpool’s season, with just a game into the premier league season.

The Mentality Giants:

The Reds still have a large part of the Championship winning side from last season, with the only departure been fringe Adam Lallana, who joined Brighton & Hove Albion. The truth is that, Liverpool are ready to win the Premier League mentally after banishing, 30 years ‘curse’ of not winning the EPL, last season.

MO’s Thunderous Start:

The Egyptian Magician had a sumptuous start to the 2020/21 season netting 3 sublime goals, in the clubs 4-3 win over newly Promoted Leeds United.

Attacking-wise Liverpool found their foot=in, but defensively they will need to improve after an hero to villain display from word-class Virgil Van Dijk.

Dominance:

Despite conceding 3 goals, the Reds where in-charge of the game, controlling possession with grits and purpose.
