Arsenal’s first team manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that David Luiz is a role model for William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.
Mikel Arteta got the two young centre-backs this summer and David Luiz will play a prominent role in helping them settle at the club.
David Luiz only arrived Arsenal last summer, but the 33-year-old has become a strong force in the Arsenal dressing room since Arteta arrived.
It is also believed that he played a key role in helping Kieran Tierney, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli settle into the team last term.
“I think he is a really good role model for them, for who David is as a person and as a player and everything he has achieved in the game – I think they are lucky to have him around,” Arteta said when asked on the impact Luiz can have on his young centre-backs.
Gabriel Magalhaes never took part in Arsenal’s pre season games but he has featured in competitive games.
The 22 year old has been phenomenal in the two games played this season, receiving the Man Of The Match award back to back while he helped his team again three maximum points against Fulham and West Ham United.
Saliba who returned to Arsenal this summer from AS Senetinne, hasn’t played competitive games for the Gunners but has featured in friendlies against MK Dons and Aston Villa, as well as the Under-23s’ 2-2 draw with Brighton.
Arteta reiterated that he has no doubt over Salibas quality
“I think William [Saliba] is doing really well,” he added.
“He is adapting to the country, adapting to our club. We have to bear in mind that he had a really challenging season last year with the amount of injuries that he had.
“But he is a player that is going to be really important in our future, things sometimes take some time and we have to respect that.
