According to various reports, Javi Martinez will be returning to Athletic Bilbao for a fee of €10 million, signing a two year deal.
The 32-year-old scored the late winner at extra-time for Bayern Munich as they defeated Sevilla 2-1 to win the UEFA Super Cup in Budapest on Thursday night.
The Spanish midfielder now has two UEFA Super Cup goals to add to his already illustrious resumé. As many will surely recall, he scored the dramatic last minute equalizer in the 2013 edition that saw the Bavarians take Chelsea to penalties and eventually win under Pep Guardiola.
Martinez will be the second Bavarians to leave the club with a year remaining on his contract this summer, as Thiago Alcantara left last week to join Liverpool.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, the versatile player has agreed a two year contract with with and third-year-renewal option.
