Football actions resumed its activities last weekend in some topflight leagues in the world, especially in Europe. While some Nigerians players brought their scoring boots, others helped their side to win matches, but some others couldn’t help their clubs to gain the maximum three points, OJB Sports made an exclusive report.
There were goal scoring actions by Nigerians who plied their trades in the Turkish league last Saturday, as Anthony Nwakaeme and Brown Ideye were on target for their various clubs.
Trabzonspor’s Nwakaeme netted his 45th minute goal after Benik Afobe’s brace at the 24th and 33rd minutes gave Eddie Newton’s men the lead against Yeni Malatyaspor, 3-1 its ended. Adem Buyuk’s second half goal could not save his side.
In tandem, Brown Ideye was on target for Goztepe, eleven minutes after his teammates, Soner Aydogdu scored his 50th minute goal to cancel out Muhamnet Demir seventh minute goal. But Alex Maxim dying minute goal cancelled out the Goztepe expected victory, which made Gaziantep FK to settle for a stalemate.
Kayode Olarenwaju was in action for Sivasppor against Ankaraguru.
Neither of the team scored as the match ended in a barren draw, same as Oghenekaro Etebo’s side Galatasaray in a controversial tie with Fenerbahce.
In England, Semi Ajayi’s hope to get the first home win for his side, West Brom Albion, was kicked back to the sea of imagination, as first half goals from Callum Robinson and Kyle Bartley were all denied. In the six-goal thriller match, Chelsea came back from three-goal deficit to settle for a draw, thanks to the Englishmen- Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Callum Hudson-Odoi- who rescued Lampard’s army from another loss, having suffered a defeat from Jurgen Klopp’s Red army.
Everton extended their unbeaten run at Selhurt Park, beating Crystal Palace. First half goals from Dominic Calvert Lewis at tenth and Richardlison at the fortieth was all Ancelloti’s men got to beat Roy Hogdson’s men. Cheikou Kauyote 26th minute goal could not help the Eagles. Alex Iwobi started off the bench, coming in for James Rodrigues at the four minutes to the end of regulated playing time.
It was not a super Sunday for Josep Guardiola’s army as Ndidi-less Leicester city were rampant at Ethiad Stadium. In Eredivise, Tyronne Ebuechi was part of the Twente’s victorious party that conquered FC Groningen. Vaclav Cerny’s 22nd minute goal, Danilo’s goal at the 37th and Alex Jeremejeff’s 80th minute goal gave Ron Jans’s lads an outstanding victory.
In the Portuguese league, Super Eagles new comer, Zaidu Sanusi started off the bench, as FC Porto had an away victory over Boavista. Sergio Conceilcao’s men fired five goals past their opponents which were not replied. Moussa Marega brace with Jesus Ruiz 47th minute goal and Sergio Oliveria goal at the 59th, crowned by Luis Diaz at the dying minutes, gave Porto the decisive victory.
Frank Onyeka was in action for his Danish side, Midtjylland against Tosin Kehinde’s Randera, but a lone goal by Brian Rederson for Midtjylland could differentiate the two sides.
