Bayern Munich will be playing Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night for the DFL (Deutsche Football Liga) Super Cup at the Allianz Arena.

The DFL Super Cup was previously called the DFB Super Cup in 1987 and it ended in 1996. It resumed in 2010 with a new name which is DFL.

The Bavarians are the most successful team winning the Super Cup seven times while the BVB side has won it six times, this shows how the two teams are closely matched in terms of winning the title.

The two German clubs have faced each other eight times for the Super Cup with both clubs winning it four times respectively.

The Bavarians will be coming to the cup with a defeat which they suffered from Hoffenheim in their last match, this was the first time since December Hansi Flick’s team lost a match and will be looking to redeem their selves by winning the German Super Cup.

For the Black and Yellow team, they will be looking to win the Super Cup for the seven-time so they can forget their defeat they suffered in the hands of Augsburg on Saturday, the BVB lost two-nil to Augsburg.

The last time the Bavarians faced the BVB side in the DFL Super cup was last year, it ended in favour of Dortmund side as they won the match two-nil.

The key players to watch in this match from both side will be Robert Lewandowski and Jadon Sancho as both players were their clubs highest goal scorers last season.

The Bundesliga Champions remains favorite to win the DFL Super cup as they hope to make it the fifth title they will win this year.
