Ruthless Manchester City brush aside Burnley 3-0 to move to the Quarter Finals of the Carabao Cup.

England international Raheem Sterling scored his first brace of the season for Manchester City, as he helped the citizens through to the next round.

Pep Guardiola men dominated for most part of the game with Burnley keeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell twice denying Sterling before the England forward got the breakthrough after Benjamin Mendy’s pass.

His second was a close-range finish from Torres’ cross before the Spain winger, who joined from Valencia for £20.78m in August, put the tie beyond Burnley’s reach with an instinctive finish.

Steve Bruce’s Newcastle side overcame a scare to beat Newport, in the Carabao Cup to reach the Quarter finals on penalties.

Former Liverpool man Jonjo Shelvey saved Newcastle as his goal, cancelled out Tristan Abrahams early strike. During the shootout Joelington spot kick was saved by Nick Townsend but two Newport players blazed thier efforts over the bar. Wilson, Shelvey and Longstaff all converted thier spot kick to hand the magpies the win.

Newcastle pummeled Morecambe 7-0 in the previous round.

County had beaten Leeds, Leicester, Middlesbrough, Swansea and Watford and held Tottenham to a draw in the past three seasons, as well as scaring Manchester City at Rodney Parade.

Padraig Amond had also made a habit of scoring in cup competitions and the Irish striker was recalled after being rested for Saturday’s win at Bolton.
