Belarusian tennis player, Victoria Azarenka, suffered a major upset in the hands of Anna Karolina Schmiedlova while Simona Halep had an easy cruise to the third round of the French Open.


The US Open finalist, Azarenka was pulled down by Schmiedlova on two identical straight sets, 2-6, 2-6. The Slovakian had earlier defeated Venus Williams at the first round of the campaign.


However, Halep breezed through the second round, by beating her compatriot Irina Camilia Begu, 6-4 6-3, it ended.


The current Italian Open winner will be facing America’s Amada Anismova, who had been overwhelming in the French Open, while Schmiedlova battles Nadia Podoroska at the third round.


Recall, that Serena Williams tie with Tsvetana Pironka won’t be feasible due to the Achilles injury the American sustained before the match which led to her withdrawal from the Grand Slam.
