Bayern Munich defeated their close rival Borussia Dortmund 3-2 to win the DFL Super cup at the Allianz Arena, making it their eighth time of winning the Super cup.

The Bavarians came in to the game without Leon Goretzka who had a back problem as Javi Martinez, Lucas Hernadez, Kingsley Coman, Niklas Sule were in the starting line-up, while the BVB side were without Jadon Sancho, Thorgan Hazard who had a respiratory problem and their goalkeeper Roman Burki.

The Black and Yellows manager Lucien Favre engaged in heavy squad rotation  as Jude Bellingham, Axel Witsel, Raphael Guerreiro were all the bench while Felix Passlack, Thomas Delaney, Marwin Hitz, Mahmoud Dahoud, Julian Brandt, and Marco Reus all started.

The German Champions rushed into a two goal lead against the BVB club before 35 minutes, with goals coming from Corentin Tollisso and Thomas Muller who headed a cross from Alphonso Davies, the Black and Yellows pulled a goal back at the 39 minutes from Julian Brandt who was served the ball by Erlin Haland as he intercepted a poor pass from Benjamin Pavard.

The second half started well for the Black and Yellows as they equalize in the 55 minutes from Erlin Haland as Delaney set the Norwegian striker through on goal.

Unfortunately for Delaney, a defensive error cancelled out his razor sharp assist of Haaland’s goal. Kimmich picked the Danish international’s pocket in the 82nd and immediately charged towards goal.

The Bavarians were able to keep their lead till the final whistle was blown, they have now won their fifth title in 2020.
