Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is set to join Laliga side Atletico Madrid on loan till the end of the season with an option to buy.

The 24-year-Old Uruguayan midfielder joined Arsenal from Italian Serie A club Sampdoria just after his impressive performance for Uruguay at the 2018 Fifa world Cup for a fee of around €29m.

The combartive defensive made a total of 71 appearances in Serie A for Sampdoria between 2015-2018 before his switch to the Emirates stadium.

He enjoyed a successful first year at Arsenal in 2018/2019 season where he made a total of 34 appearances in the league for the club scoring two goals in the process. However, his second season at was not as good as his first.

He suffered lost of form and consistent niggling injuries which made him to loose his starting spot at the club. Things hasn’t been rossy for the Uruguayan international at Arsenal since then and has been made available for transfer by Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta this summer.

According to reports from @FabrizioRomano Atletico Madrid has reached an agreement with Arsenal to sign Lucas Torreira on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season. The former Sampdoria man has already travelled to the Spanish capital and will have his medical today after agreeing personal terms with the Madrid club.

It is set to be a very busy last few days of transfer window at Arsenal, with certain fringe players expected to leave to create space for new arrivals.
