Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has waxed praises on the club’s deadline day signing, saying he gives him options to play different formations.
Arsenal completed deadline day signing of Ghana International midfielder Thomas Partey after activating his €50 million release clause from Atletico Madrid.
The North London club has followed the development of the 27-year-Old midfielder for a very long time and was linked with his acquisition all through the summer transfer market till they signed him on the deadline day.
Mikel Arteta is a very happy man as he finally got his primary target who he believes will give his team a big lift and as well an option to try different tactics.
In his words he has this to say regarding Thomas. “I think he allows us to play different formations and he can fit in within those formations in different positions, which is a really good thing to have in a squad where, in midfield, I think we were a little bit short.
“I have a few things in mind that I want to start to train with the team and [Partey’s signing] is going to give us more adaptability & balance in defending and attacking transitions & the way we have to set up certain structures to attack better in certain moments of the game.”
Arsenal has been playing with a 3-5-2 formation under Arteta in other to make them more defensively strong. Though Arteta would have preferred to adopt a 4-3-3 formation at the Emirates all these while but he thinks the club lack a midfield destroyer. But with the signing of the former Atletico Madrid man Arteta can now confidently set up his team in a 4-3-3 attacking formation knowing fully well that his new recruitment will be at the middle of the park to help out the defence in shutting down opposition’s attack.
Thomas is set to link up with his new teammates next week after the International break and will likely make his debut for the club against Manchester City in their next premier league encounter.
