Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Arteta has stated that the club record signing Nicholas Pepe is willing to do well at the club, and has backed the Ivorian winger to be more consistent.

Pepe scored Arsenal’s third and final goal at the start of the second half as they secured a 3-0 comfortable win over Irish side Dundalk FC in their second group game of UEFA Europa league last night, with a beautiful curler into the bottom right corner of the post with his weaker right foot.

Arteta was questioned in his post match press conference on the performance of the former Lille man and why he hasn’t been starting a lot of games so far this season and the manager has this to say.

“He (Pepe) is so willing to do well and show everybody, first of all his teammates, myself and the fans, that he is a player that can make a difference every week. Obviously he has not been first choice in a lot of the games at the moment but to be fair he has played quite a lot of moments, some better than others.

It’s about finding the consistency, not through the games but during the game as well to be more insistive and be able to do the right things in many, many occasions when he has to do the right things on the pitch. It’s nothing to do with his attitude. He’s a player that takes risks and is a very creative player and that’s the most difficult thing in football when they all know what you can do, how much they want to prevent space, the overloads they generate to defend you as well.

Creating situations from them is complicated but sometimes it’s the simple things – the deliveries, the amount of situations that he’s able to create or attract and then make the right decision to keep that phase of play evolving, the finishing, the position inside the box – that he has to be more consistent at. And will be doing that more efficiently”

Pepe has been dividing opinions among Arsenal supporters since his move from French side Lille to Arsenal last season for a club record fee of 72 million pounds. There is never a doubt about the talent which the Ivorian winger posses but being able to deliver on a consistent basis has been the key issue since his big money move to the club.

The fans will hope that this season He (Pepe) will finally be able to replicate the form which made the club land him for the hefty price in the summer of 2019.
