Liverpool star Mohamed Salah could be set to play for Egypt at two different tournaments during the 2021/22 campaign, which could be a major blow for Jurgen Klopp next season.
Egypt’s Under-23 coach confirmed his wish to pick Salah for the Olympics.
The Egyptian forward had been lined up to feature for Egypt at the 2020 games in Tokyo, only for the coronavirus pandemic to delay the event by a year.
Gharib has again indicated he will be picking Salah for Egypt’s Olympic squad again.
“The team’s technical staff and the Egyptian Football Association have the desire to call up Mohamed Salah for the Olympics,” he said, via Ahram Online.
“Salah is a world class player and I hope that he will be able to play with us in the Olympics. When you have such a player in your team, the objectives of the team would be different.
“Brazil won the gold medal in Rio De Janeiro thanks to Neymar who led the Brazilian team in this competition”, he added.
If Salah is included in Gharib’s Olympic squad, he could miss the majority of Liverpool’s pre-season and their opening 2021/22 Premier League fixtures with the games scheduled for July 23 to August 8 of next year.
