Bayern Munich have confirmed that Joshua Kimmich has successfully undergone surgery on his right lateral meniscus on Sunday.

The Bundesliga champions aren’t expecting the 24-year-old to return until January 2021.

The Bavarians sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said “We’re glad that Joshua will probably be available again in a matter of weeks. We’ll support him in his rehabilitation as best we can.”

The 25-year-old hurt his knee in Saturday’s 3-2 victory over arch rival Borussia Dortmund, which saw him forced off during the first half.

He was replaced in the 36 minutes of the game by the French midfielder Corentien Tolliso.

The Germany international have been a key figure in the bavarians midfield ever since Thiago Alcantara left the club to join Liverpool this summer.
