Nigeria striker Victor Osimhem has stated that he is ready and willing to fill the shoe of the legendary Nigerian striker and all time goalscorer Rashidi Yekini.
Osimhem who was speaking to the Super Eagles media team from Benin City which is the venue for their AFCON qualifiers clash with Sierra Leone tomorrow.
The Napoli striker who has been tipped by Super Eagles supporters to break the record of the all time Nigerian national team goal scorer set by the late striker Rashidi Yekini, and the former Lille man was questioned on how he feels by the expectations of the supporters from him and being compared to the legendary goal scorer and Osimhen has this to say.
“Filling in the shoes of Rashidi Yekini is kinda heavy for me but I think I’m on the right path. If I’m injury free I think I can achieve this feat but it won’t be easy. But with the confidence the coach has in me & support from the fans, it’s achievable.”
On Competition for the starting spot amongst the Super Eagles Strikers he said, “There is no competition between me and the likes of Iheanacho, Onuachu and Dennis. Whoever the coach call upon will surely give his best. I’m ready to help the team, that’s what’s important.”
Nigeria will take on Sierra Leone on Friday in the first leg a double header AFCON qualifiers at Benin City with the second leg coming next week in Sierra Leone. A win in both encounter by the Super Eagles will ensure their qualification in the next edition of AFCON stated to take place next year.
