Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has blamed his team’s lost to Istanbul Basaksehir in Istanbul as the reason for not progressing beyond the Champions league group stage.
The Red devils were eliminated from the Champions league last night by German side RBLeipzig in a five goal thriller in which Leipzig won by 3 goals to 2.
The German club lead by 2 – 0 at the first half interval and soon extend there lead to three goals at the early stages of the second half. Despite United fight for a come back by pulling two goals back late on in the game, they were made to pay for their slow start in the game at the end.
United Boss Ole refused to fault his players commitment in his post match interview rather, he blamed their loss to Istanbul Basaksehir in their first leg of the group stage encounter in Turkey as the reason for their misfortune. In his words he has this to say
On his side’s lost in Istanbul costing them he says:
“Yeah, definitely. The away game, that defeat; that’s where you look at those points missed. They’re the points that cost us getting into the next round, or the knock-out phase, no doubt about that.”
On his team’s ELIMINATION he says:
“Of course you can’t say that we were good enough, we weren’t good enough, in a difficult group of course. We started really well, in this group and obviously the big turning point or the big defeat for us was the one away to Istanbul. That’s the one that you look back and think that’s where we lost the points that we should have had. Today we were close, but we knew we had to defend crosses, we knew we had to defend balls in the box and we just couldn’t clear them.”
Manchester United will back in action this weekend when they take on City rivals Manchester City and will hope to put their Champions league disappointing behind them and get back to winning ways.
