Arsenal midfielder of Nigerian parentage Miguel Azeez has expressed his delight after making his first team debut for the club last night in Europa league’s victory over Dundalk FC.
The 18-year-old English born midfielder came through the Arsenal Hale End academy and is rated as one of the best young talent coming through the academy at the moment. He has been tipped by many pundits to follow the foot-steps of Bukayo Saka who also came through the academy to break into the first team set up.
Azeez however got his long anticipated first team debut last night in Arsenal’s final group game of the Uefa Europa league against Irish side Dundalk FC. The young midfielder replaced Joe Willock in the 83rd minute of the game in which Arsenal won by 4 goals to 2.
Despite spending just few minutes on the pitch, Azeez was able to make it count with some neat touches and also his composure on the ball even when under pressure from the opponents. He spoke to the club’s official website immediately after the game to express his joy at making his first team debut.
On making his debut he says..
I’m buzzing. I’m happy and overjoyed with the experience. I’m so grateful that I was able to get the experience and all the hard work has paid off today.
On how it felt to be told he was coming on…
I just wanted to play my game because that’s why I’m here. I didn’t want to do anything that I’m not used to doing. I just wanted to see the game out and make sure we won and put in a good performance.
On what Arsenal fans can expect to see from him…
I will play with passion because I love the club. I’ve been here since the age of five so I’m an Arsenal fan through and through and obviously, I just want to give something back to the fans and play my best games every single day.
The young exciting midfielder will hope his few minutes comeo last night will be a stepping stone moving forward, as he hope to get more opportunities to feature for the first team.
