Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have now move ahead premier league side Manchester United in the race to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, this is according to David Ornstein.
The France international recently extended his contract with RB Leipzig to 2023 this summer but there is a release clause of €42 million which can be activated by the end of the season.
With David Alaba and Jerome Boateng yet to extend their contract with the Bavarians, the defensive duo are seemingly on their way out given that their contracts expire in June 2021 – both are free to hold talks with clubs in January ahead of a free transfer.
The Bavarians will only have Niklas Sule as their only senior defender with other junior defenders Chris Richard and Tanguy Nianzou in their ranks when the duo leaves.
The Bavarians manager Hansi Flick will need to sign a replacement immediately and Upamecano seems to be the top of their list.
The 22-year-old has become an important player for RB Leipzig, playing 129 games in all competitions and has established himself as one of the hottest defensive talents in football.
