Super Eagles gaffer Gernot Rhor has revealed that Sparta Rotterdam’s Maduka Okoye is now his temporary No 1 goalkeeper in the Nigerian national team.

Okoye who made his debut for Nigeria against Brazil last year has enjoyed steady rise to prominence.

He made a move from German club Fortuna Dusseldorf to Eredivise side Sparta Rotterdam during the summer and has put out brilliant shut outs since becoming a regular in the team.

In all the games that the Super Eagles played this year, Maduka Okoye was in goal through out.

And now Rhor has come out to say that it’s Okoye’s turn to be the no 1.

“All the goalkeepers in the team have been first choice for some time and now it’s Okoye’s turn,” Rohr told owngoalnigeria

“He has to work really hard to hang on to the position because the others are eager to be there. So it is not his own yet.

“He has done well with his club and that’s what you need to be in our team.” Rohr told Owngoal

It could be recalled that after the premature retirement of Carl Ikeme and Vincent Enyeama, Nigerians have witnessed Daniel Akpeyi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Francis Uzoho jostle for the No 1 spot.
