Manchester United head coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has revealed that Summer signing Edinson Cavani demanded the No.7 shirt before agreeing to join Manchester United.

Several players have won the shirts have done well in it, we’ve seen the likes of Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo flourish while wearing the No.7 jersey for United.

The No.7 is been seen as an heavy burden due to the uninspiring performances of those who have won it since Cristiano Ronaldo left for Real Madrid in 2009.

Players like Angel Di Maria, Memphis Depay and Alexis Sanchez, have won the famous shirt and ended up becoming huge flops at Old Trafford.

Edinson Cavani is the ninth player to dorn the No.7 Jersey since official squad numbers were introduced in the year 1993.

Solskjaer confessed that the former Napoli superstar admitted that he could cope the pressure that comes with the United’s No.7 shirt.

“It is the first thing he asked me, when I spoke him, could he wear the number seven shirt.

“Obviously we told him about the history of the shirt and the history of his career and experience, his personality from our chat and what I had watched before.

“I had no doubt that he could handle the number seven shirt. He is a meticulous profesional. His habits and everything show you about why he has had the career he has had.”
