Nigeria and Super Eagles forward, Samuel Chwukueze, has set a new record as the youngest villarreal player to play 100 games for the club.

Samuel Chwukueze started against Zamora in the Copa Del Rey on Tuesday to make his 100th appearance for the Yellow Submarines marking it with an assist.

AC Milan centre back Mateo Musacchio, was the previous holder of the record with him being 21 years, 11months and 20 days when he got a record of 100 games for Villarreal, however Samu at 21 years, seven months and 11 days has eclipsed the record set by theArgentina international.

“A record-making centenarian. Samuel Chukwueze has reached 100 games with Villarreal’s first team after starting the Copa del Rey game against Zamora CF,” wrote the LaLiga side in a statement.

“The Nigerian forward has reached the 100-game mark (79 in LaLiga, 13 in the Europa League and eight in the Copa del Rey), aged just 21 years, seven months and 11 days, becoming the youngest player to reach this mark in official games for the Villarreal CF first team.”

Samuel got signed up by Villarreal CF from Diamond Football Academy in Nigeria after his scintillating performances at the 2017 Fifa U17 World Cup in Chile which the Golden Eaglets won.

He scored three goals and turned provider on three occasions at the mundial and he was also named third-best player behind Johannes Eggestein and teammate Victor Osimhen.

After his signing the club asked him to join the U23s, his impressive performances for the club’s reserves got him a promotion to the senior team. He then made his debut in a Europa League game against Glasgow Rangers with the then manager Javi Calleja bringing him in as a 79th-minute replacement for Nicola Sansone.

And since making his debut, he’s been a mainstay in the team and also inspiring the Yellow Submarines to win games.
