Former Premier League Referee Mark Clattenburg has slammed Jurgen Klopp for complaining that Manchester United have had more penalties in two years under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer than Liverpool have had since he became the manager of the Merseyside club.

Liverpool manager Klopp after the loss to Southampton said Manchester United have had more penalties in two years under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer than Liverpool have had since he became the manager of the Merseyside club.

However, Clattenburg has hit out at the former Borrusia Dortmund manager.

“First, Klopp sounds like a hypocrite if he is suggesting United’s players are looking to win penalties.

“The likes of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane are just capable of employing similar tactics.

“He is clearly getting edgy, though, because not since Fergie have we seen such a blatant attempt to influence a referee ahead of a big game.

“Klopp wasn’t doing this last season when Liverpool were winning every week.” he concluded.

Klopp’s men will host in form leaders Manchester United in a Premier League on Sunday.
