Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has thrown his weights behind Thomas Tuchel in getting new boys for the Blues.

Dayot Upamecano is a summer target for Chelsea and the french man could be heading to Stamford Bridge.

BILD (German news outlet) reports that the RB Leipzig youngster is highly regarded at Chelsea and they’d love to exercise his €37 million release clause.

The Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is said to be keen to fund the deal, with the club already holding meetings with Upamecano’s agency Sport360.

The 2012 UEFA Champions League winners are not alone in the race for Upamecano as they face stiff competition from the likes of Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

The former french youth teamer is said to favour a move to the Premier League over another spell in the German Bundelisiga.

Upamecano said in September 2020: “I have extended my contract with Leipzig. I am targeted by several clubs, I speak with clubs, but I have time. We will see what happens in the future.”

France head coach Didier Deschamps handed the 21 year old his maiden call upon and is proud to be part of the national team set-up.

“The senior French team is a dream for me. I have played with all of the youth national teams. I dreamed of coming to the castle. Now, I’m there. My work has been rewarded, I’m proud of myself.

“It’s not easy to have this competition, but it’s even better for my progress to work with great players like [Raphael] Varane, [Presnel] Kimpembe and [Clement] Lenglet who have experience and played a lot of big matches.”

Chelsea have a whole lot of options at the back but are still looking forward to strengthening their defense line and it’s surely opening ways for an exit for some players.

Thiago Silva who is 36 year old will surely stop professional football in a year or two and the most dependable center half will not be at the bridge again which is promoting a move for Dayot.
