Napoli Head Coach Gennaro Gattuso has come again in defense of Victor Osimhen, saying the striker has not been in tip-top condition since returning from injury and recovering from coronavirus.
Since his goal against Genoa last year November, Victor has now gone 102 days without scoring for the Naples outfit.
Gattuso spoke to the media after his side’s 2-0 defeat to Granada in the UEFA Europa League defending his most priced asset by attributing his drought to lack of fitness.
Granada lead the two legged encounter by two goals to nill thanks to first half goals from Herrera and Kenedy.
“As I already said, Osimhen was out for a long time, he’s still playing with strapping to his shoulder and is not 100 per cent,” Gattuso said to Sky Sport Italia via Football Italia.
“He needs to find consistency and sharpness to play his game. At the moment, he has these gaps and isn’t capable of moving consistently, as we’ve seen it in the statistics.”
Gattuso still keeps faith in the 2015 U-17 FIFA World Cup highest goalscorer despite his lukewarmness in front of school.
